Get your marketing ready for 2024

Fingers on the pulse, ears to the ground, and eyes on the ball people. The end of 2023 is upon us and with it comes a brand spanking new landscape to navigate: enter 2024.

For many if not most, a new year brings a sense of new opportunities both personally and professionally. This often translates to exploring fresh approaches in how we do what we do, and making sure we are the forefront of what tools are available to support our success.

In the big, wide world of marketing, things are always moving and changing, so to get you ready for what the next year has in store we’ve compiled a guide identifying what’s hip and happening for 2024. Could one of these burgeoning areas be ripe for the picking for your business? Let’s see…

Preparing for marketing in 2024

While every trend and tool in marketing won’t work for every business, we’ve rounded up some key spaces that might just be where you’ll find fresh inspiration and opportunities to level up your marketing in the coming year.

Augmented reality

Arguably one of the most exciting developments in technology is the increasing integration of augmented reality (AR) into marketing strategies. Immersing customers in your product or service in an engaging, experiential way from the comfort of their own homes? Yes, please! In 2024, it might be time to get serious about leveraging AR, whether it’s to showcase products in virtual settings, offer interactive ads, or allow customers to get up close and personal but virtually. This one can set you apart.

Social media as a search engine

We touched on this on our blog in 2023, asking ourselves whether social media is the new Google. The data keeps telling us that younger consumers from around 16 to 34 are more likely to head to Facebook or Instagram and the like to search for the information they need about brands and products. If you’ve been neglecting social media or treating it like a useful ad hoc activity, consider this your reminder to pull your social media socks up.

Personalised marketing

Repeat after me: “I will not just send out impersonal marketing material to my entire database”. While email marketing has the highest ROI of all digital marketing efforts, it’s gotta be good to get results. And when we are all receiving an estimated 100 – 120 emails per day, a little effort goes a long way when it comes to standing out and being deemed worthy of our time. This is where the growing trend of personalised marketing becomes crucial, and we don’t just mean addressing the recipients by name. You want to use segmentation, dig deep into individual preferences and customer behavior, use important anniversaries, and more. Whatever you can find to make the experience feel meaningful for your audience.

Optimising for voice search

“Hey Siri can you find a recipe for really yummy lamingtons?” Yep, the rise of us all using smart devices and leaning our voice assistant mates Siri, Google and Alexa means it’s time to start considering how your target market speaks when it comes to keyword strategy for your online content. Search is getting conversational and you’ll likely find that long-tail keywords and phrases become more and more important for you in 2024.

Values-based brands and marketing

Authenticity, ethical practices, integrity, and social responsibility are having a big impact on brands. Consumers are seeking brands that align with their values. Make sure you are clearly communicating and demonstrating your values to build strong connections with your target market. Authenticity builds trust, and trust is the foundation of long-term customer relationships, especially for the values-focused Millennial and Gen Z markets.

Where will you focus your energy in 2024?

At the end of the day, there’s always going to be trends across just about every sector you can think of but that doesn’t mean it’s going to be right for you.
